Just a few weeks before E3, Microsoft has let loose a huge announcement regarding its flagship series. Bonnie Ross, General Manager of 343 Industries, revealed that the next installment in the beloved saga of Master Chief, Halo 5: Guardians, will be arriving next fall, and looks like it will be everything fans could hope for.

Promising 60 frames per second and dedicated cloud servers, the announcement speaks to how the series has continually pushed the Xbox systems to their limits and ushered in their full potential. This release will be no different. Utilizing new technology that takes full advantage of the power the Xbox One has to offer, this sequel will be massive in scope and seeks to incorporate all the ambition and hope one could dream of putting in a next gen Halo.

Taking fan feedback into account, the extra year will hopefully allow these promises to be kept and deliver us the Halo of all Halos. In addition to the game’s release at that time, Steven Spielberg’s television series will also be debuting, a “series that will stand alone, as well as complement and enrich the game experience.” There is much to be excited about come fall 2015, though it may pain us to wait that long, and from what has been revealed so far, our patience will be well rewarded.

In the meantime, the announcement also revealed that the phrasing from last year’s E3 reveal, that this new project was a “journey”, was indeed deliberate, and that “journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step.” These “special plans” will be revealed at Microsoft’s “Game On” E3 conference come June 9th, and with rumors swirling from anything to a remake of Halo 2 to a bundle of all the games in the series thus far in one glorious HD remake, the hype cannot be more palatable.

Whether or not you are a diehard Halo fan, this announcement is an integral part of the Xbox One community as a whole, and we can only wait and see what will be revealed in the next few weeks, and what the future
