Teen Wolf comes back from break answering some questions and again leaving us questioning more than we thought we could as viewers. Melissa and Chris work to save Chris’s life as he slowly dies from deceptively major wounds left by a ghost rider whip. Scott, Malia and Lydia all head to Canaan after Stiles leads them there. Liam, Hayden, and serial killer werewolf/science teacher work to catch a Ghost Rider.
Evidently, Melissa McCall (Melissa Ponzio) reigns as the real MVP of Teen Wolf again in this episode. After Chris Argent (JR Bourne) ends up in the hospital with surface wounds from a Ghost Rider whip that are killing him, he works with Melissa to save his own life. Melissa takes a list of ingredients that are not in English and then translates them to put it all together and save Chris’s life.
Scott (Tyler Posey), Malia (Shelley Hennig), and Lydia (Holland Roden) visit Canaan where they promptly get trapped in a house by another banshee. We learn that this whole town was taken by Ghost Riders, leaving only the single banshee who lived there. Lydia glimpses what could become of her if the same thing happens to Beacon Hills. This woman has gone crazy in wake of the loss of every single person who used to live in the area. She traps Lydia, Scott and Malia solely because they are new and they are there. Lydia only gets the trio untrapped by having a banshee fight and trying to make her see reason. This confrontation leads to the most heartbreaking line in the episode, said by Lydia, that no doubt had Stydia shippers screaming: “I don’t want to be safe. I want to save Stiles.”
In an interesting turn of events, Liam (Dylan Sprayberry) and Hayden (Victoria Moroles) end up working with their science teacher, Garrett Douglass (Pete Ploszek), who is also a serial killer werewolf, to capture a Ghost Rider and resurrect Theo (Cody Christian) in the process. Theo obviously knows who Douglass is and that he is probably a creation of the Dread Doctors from last season. Theo also knows Stiles. Since he was dead when the Ghost Riders took Stiles, his memory was never affected. The conflict that will ensue very briefly in the next episode between Theo, Scott and Malia will no doubt be exciting before they promptly put it all behind them to work together to take down the Ghost Riders.
The episode ends on a very telling cliffhanger. Sheriff Stilinski (Linden Ashby) finally peels back the wallpaper on the wall we saw Stiles on the other side of and Lydia previously tried to pull off before being stopped by Claudia Stilinski (Joey Honsa). Stilinski pulls back the wallpaper and the camera zooms in on his face from the other side of the wall through a clear plane. The only thing viewers have to go off of in this scene is Stilinski’s face. His shock is understandable, but, hopefully, that means that he’s seeing into the train station on the other side of that wall.
Teen Wolf yet again is giving us exactly what we expect from the show, but it brilliantly pulls on our heartstrings because the characters are compelling and regularly break our hearts week after week. This episode was a great way to return from break to continue the final season.
