Boy Meets World diehards, rejoice. Topanga (Danielle Fishel) and Cory (Ben Savage) are reuniting for Disney Channel’s new series Girl Meets World. The show will follow the life of the couple’s youngest child, daughter, Riley. It is reported that Cory will be playing a 7th grade history teacher—a character reminiscent of the much-loved Mr. Feeny.
With a mix of old stars and new, the cast is sure to please. Rowan Blanchard is set to play Cory and Topanga’s thirteen year-old daughter. Playing the couple’s son, Elliott, will be Teo Halm. There are characters being modeled after Boy Meets World favorites, Shawn Hunter and Stuart Minkus. Sabrina Carpenter will be playing Riley’s best friend Maya Fox, a character with a troubled past, much like Hunter. Shamus Farkle, kid genius, like Minkus, will be played by Corey Fogelmanis. And of course it wouldn’t be a Boy Meets World spinoff without—you guessed it—Mr. Feeny. William Daniels has officially signed on to join the cast of GMW.
One character that won’t be appearing on GMW is Rider Strong, who played Cory’s best friend, Shawn Hunter. He wrote the following statement regarding his participation in the new show: “At this point, I have no official involvement. There might be a chance to see some of the BMW cast in a guest spot … But Girl Meets World will be, and I think it should be, it’s own show. It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter, and a new set of characters … And I, for one, can’t wait to see it evolve.” (Hollywoodlife.com)
I’ve got to agree with Strong on this one, I can’t wait to see how Girl Meets World progresses.
