First Trailer Offers Glimpse into “Guardians of the Galaxy”

After a brief snippet in last year’s Thor: The Dark World, the first official trailer for Marvel Studio’s Guardians of the Galaxy finally hit TV screens and the web Monday night. While it definitely veers in a different direction than previous films in Marvel Studio’s Cinematic Universe, it has to be one of the more intriguing installments in Phase Two of the studio’s film slate.

One of the more noticeable differences is the tone of the film. Already, actor Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation, Zero Dark Thirty) shares the sarcastic, wisecracking attitude akin to Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man. He’s the only character of the actual Guardians to speak in the trailer.

The scope of the film is worth addressing. Keep in mind that this is the last film of the Phase Two block before Avengers: Age of Ultron next year, but it will be the only one to take place in a realm other than earth. The trailer confirms most of that theory, from the spaceships to the prison, to the characters themselves. Based on the trailer, Pratt’s Star-Lord is the only human in the group.

The rest of the core five Guardians consist of Zoe Saldana as the green skinned alien Gamora; Dave Bautista as the muscly, rampaging Drax the Destroyer; Vin Diesel as the voice of walking planet Groot; and Bradley Cooper as the smallest  and most vicious member Rocket Raccoon.

Overall, the film appears to be one of the most elaborate and fun films in the Phase Two gallery. It has already been confirmed that the film will serve to expand the Cinematic Universe as a whole and will give clues about where it’s headed.

With the first trailer and official footage revealed, all that’s left is waiting for the August release to see how the film compares to the rest of those in Phase Two. Either way, it’s going to be something else.
