Box Office Roundup (12/6-12/8)

Maria Millage ’17/ Emertainment Monthly Staff Writer

This weekend the animated tale Frozen stole the top spot away from the second installment in the popular Hunger Games franchise, Catching Fire.  This was bound to happen with all the (well-deserved) hype around Disney’s newest flick that featured stunning animation and a strong female protagonist backed up by a ridiculously lovable snowman.  The box office earnings of both The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Thor: The Dark World are slowing down significantly since their original releases in November and it’s likely that they both will be knocked down in the running this weekend by the release of the second film in the Hobbit movie franchise.  Newcomer Out of the Furnace flopped, making back only an increment amount of its estimated $22 million production cost but Bale will be back starring in Oscar-contender American Hustle with costars Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, and Bradley Cooper later in the month.
